THE USE OF AIR PHOTO MOSAICS FOR LOCATION AND DESIGN PLANS

AIR PHOTO MOSAICS HAVE RECENTLY BEEN USED EXTENSIVELY FOR HIGHWAY LOCATION AND DESIGN PLANS IN SASKATCHEWAN. THE MOSAICS ARE PRODUCED ON A POLYESTER FILM MATERIAL WITH A PHOTOGRAPHIC EMULSION ON THE REVERSE SIDE. DETAILS CAN BE DRAWN ON THE MOSAIC, AND PAPER COPIES ARE EASILY OBTAINED. TWO TYPES OF PLAN ARE USED' /1/ A STRIP MOSAIC FOR LOCATION OR RIGHT-OF-WAY PLANS, /2/ A PLAN-PROFILE /OR MOSAIC PROFILE/ SHEET FOR DESIGN PLANS. BOTH PLANS ARE PRODUCED FROM A SEMI-CONTROLLED MOSAIC. THE DISTANCES BETWEEN ROADS AND STREETS ARE USED FOR SCALE CONTROL. SCREENED POSITIVE IMAGES ARE SPECIFIED FOR THE MOSAICS. /SCREENED NEGATIVE IMAGES WERE PREVIOUSLY SPECIFIED, BUT DIFFICULTIES WITH LEGIBILITY WERE EXPERIENCED WHEN REDUCED COPIES WERE MADE FOR CONTRACT DRAWINGS./ THE MAIN ADVANTAGE IS THAT THE VALUE OF AIR PHOTOS CAN BE MORE FULLY UTILIZED BY HAVING LOCATION AND DESIGN DETAILS ON EASILY REPRODUCED MOSAICS. COST EXPERIENCES ARE INCLUDED. RECENT COSTS ARE LESS THAN 30.00 PER MILE FOR AIR PHOTOS, STRIP MOSAICS, AND MOSAIC- PROFILE SHEETS. THE MAIN CONCLUSION IS THAT SEMI-CONTROLLED STRIP MOSAICS AND MOSAIC-PROFILE SHEETS ARE IDEAL FOR LOCATION AND DESIGN PLANS.
