PHOTOGRAMMETRY AND PHOTOGRAPHIC INTERPRETATION IN LANDSCAPE DEVELOPMENT

THE ECONOMIC APPLICATION OF PHOTOGRAMMETRY, PHOTOGRAPHIC INTERPRETATION AND THE RESULTANT TOPOGRAPHIC MAPS, TO LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE IN HIGHWAY AND PARK DESIGN, IS BEING ANALYZED. THE USE OF PHOTOGRAMMETRY INSTEAD OF GROUND SURVEYS IS BASED ON' THE LOCATION OF THE SURVEY AREA AND SITE ACCESSIBILITY, THE SIZE OF THE SURVEY AREA, THE CHARACTER OF THE TERRAIN, CHARACTER OF VEGETATIVE COVER, SCALE OF MAPS, THE CLIMATE AND SEASON OF THE SURVEY, AND THE CHARACTER OF THE DETAIL REQUIRED. PHOTOGRAMMETRY HAS THE ADVANTAGE OVER GROUND SURVEYS IN THAT ALL INFORMATION IS RECORDED IF THE PROGRAM IS TO BE EXPANDED LATER, AND MORE DETAILED INFORMATION NEEDED. HOWEVER IN GEOLOGY, FORESTRY, AGRICULTURE, SOIL IDENTIFICATION, AND MILITARY OPERATIONS, PHOTOGRAPHIC INTERPRETATION REQUIRES STUDY AND EXPERIENCE. AERIAL PHOTOGRAMMETRY AND GROUND SURVEYS CAN BE COMBINED TO OBTAIN THE DESIRED INFORMATION.
