A SIMPLE TRAFFIC ASSIGNMENT PROCEDURE FOR EVALUATING MANY ROAD NETWORKS, WITH DISCUSSION AND CLOSURE

THE FEW ROAD NETWORKS EXAMINED BY MOST STUDIES ARE INSUFFICIENT TO EVALUATE THE INTERDEPENDENCE OF PROJECTS. THE NUMBER OF ROAD NETWORKS EXAMINED CAN BE INCREASED BY USING A SIMPLIFIED TRAFFIC ASSIGNMENT PROCEDURE. THE MULTI- PATH CAPACITY RESTRAINED PROGRAM ASSIGNS TRAFFIC TO FREEWAY LINKS AND HOMOGENEOUS TRAVEL ZONES OF SURFACE STREETS. THE PAPER DISCUSSES THE ASSUMPTIONS IN THE METHOD, COMPARES THE RESULTS WITH FULL LINK ASSIGNMENTS, AND SUGGESTS IMPROVEMENTS TO THE METHOD. /AUTHOR/
