THE SUMMARY OF DATA ON THE INCREASE IN SIZE OF TRUCKING COMPANIES FROM 1955 TO 1965 INDICATES: MAINTENANCE COSTS, TERMINAL COSTS, DEPRECIATION, AND TAXES INCREASED PROPORTIONALLY MORE THAN THE OUTPUT; ADMINISTRATION AND INSERVICE COSTS DECREASED PROPORTIONALLY MORE THAN THE OUTPUT; TRAFFIC AND TRANSPORT COSTS DECLINED IN PROPORTION WITH THE OUTPUT; AND EXPANDING FIRMS TENDED TO DECREASE OPERATION RATIOS WHILE CONTRACTING FIRMS INCREASED AND OPERATION RATIOS.
