DEVELOPING AND TESTING AN INTRA-REGIONAL MODEL

AS PART OF THE EVALUATION OF THE ECONOMIC IMPACT OF ALTERNATIVE TRANSPORT SYSTEMS PROPOSED FOR THE NORTHEAST CORRIDOR REGION OF THE UNITED STATES, IT WAS NECESSARY TO DEVELOP A MODEL TO FORECAST THESE IMPACTS. THE MODEL WAS DEVELOPED BY INTEGRATING PORTIONS OF THE CONCEPTS OF ECONOMIC-BASE, INTERSECTORAL INPUT-OUTPUT, AND SPATIAL ACCESSIBILITY. FORECASTS ARE DEVELOPED OF EMPLOYMENT (BY TEN SECTORS), POPULATION, PERSONAL INCOME (BY SIX CLASSES), LAND VALUE, AND LAND USE, FOR 131 COUNTY-SIZED AREAS. THE THEORETICAL DEVELOPMENT, PARAMETER ESTIMATION, AND SOME TESTING OF THE MODEL ARE DESCRIBED, AND DIRECTIONS FOR FUTURE WORK ARE SUGGESTED. /AUTHOR/
