SCHEDULING CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS AND DISCUSSION

THE SCHEDULING OF CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS AND A SHORT-TERM OPERATIONS VIEWPOINT OF A FIVE-YEAR PERIOD IS DISCUSSED. CONSTRUCTION PROGRAMMING IS REVIEWED BY THE SEVEN MAJOR CATEGORIES WHICH PERMIT A READY ANALYSIS OF THE PROPOSED EXPENDITURES. THESE CATEGORIES ARE: (1) EXCHANGE GROWTH, (2) EXCHANGE MECHANIZATION, (3) TOLL GROWTH, (4) TOLL MECHANIZATION, (5) STATIONS, (6) GENERAL EQUIPMENT, AND (7) OTHER, WHICH INCLUDES SEVERAL CATEGORIES SUCH AS PUBLIC REQUIREMENTS, DIAL-WITH-DIAL REPLACEMENTS, MAINTENANCE REPLACEMENTS, AND NONEQUIPMENT BUILDINGS SUCH AS GARAGES AND OFFICE BUILDINGS. THIS CONSTRUCTION REVIEW IS FOR THE BELL SYSTEM OPERATING COMPANIES. PUBLIC REQUIREMENTS INCLUDES ALL OF THE PROJECTS CAUSED BY PUBLIC ROAD WORK AND IS A SUBSTANTIAL ITEM FOR THE CHESAPEAKE AND POTOMAC GROUP OF COMPANIES. A CONSTRUCTION PROGRAM SUMMARY IS PRESENTED BY YEAR. THE STEPS IN THE PREPARATION OF THE CONSTRUCTION PROGRAM ARE SHOWN.
