PENN STATE'S TRANSPORTATION RESEARCH CENTER ENCOURAGES INTERACTION OF FACULTY, STUDENTS

THE PENNSYLVANIA TRANSPORTATION AND TRAFFIC SAFETY CENTER CONDUCTS RESEARCH IN TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS, TRAFFIC SAFETY, AND ROAD USER CHARACTERISTICS IN ADDITION TO COORDINATING ACADEMIC PROGRAMS RELATED TO TRANSPORTATION. CURRENT MAJOR RESEARCH ACTIVITIES INCLUDE ROADWAY DELINEATION SYSTEMS, COST-EFFECTIVENESS STUDIES OF ANTISKID AND DEICING PROGRAMS DETECTION AND PREVENTION OF PREFERENTIAL BRIDGE DECK ICING. POLISHING OF PAVEMENT CORES, ANALYSIS OF INFRARED COLOR AIR PHOTOS, ROAD ROUGHNESS EFFECTS ON VEHICLE PERFORMANCE, HIGHWAY LIGHTING NEEDS, ILLINOIS WATERWAY SIMULATION, AND MARKET EVALUATION OF THE HARRISBURG--PHILADELPHIA RAIL DEMONSTRATION PROJECT. THE CENTER IS ALSO ENGAGED IN THE PLANNING AND CONSTRUCTION OF TEST FACILITIES.
