GRADUATE DEGREES IN HIGHWAY ENGINEERING AS RELATED TO OTHER MAJORS IN CIVIL ENGINEERING

MAIL QUESTIONNAIRES WERE USED TO ATTEMPT TO GATHER STATISTICS ON THE NUMBER OF GRADUATE STUDENTS IN CIVIL ENGINEERING. THE STUDY SHOWS THAT A REASONABLE PERCENTAGE ARE MAJORING IN HIGHWAY ENGINEERING. ABOUT 10 PERCENT OF THE CIVIL ENGINEERING GRADUATE STUDENTS AT THE MASTER'S LEVEL AND 5 PERCENT AT THE DOCTOR'S LEVEL ARE MAJORING IN HIGHWAY ENGINEERING. IN SOIL ENGINEERING, THE PERCENTAGES ARE ABOUT 10 AND 14, WHICH WOULD PRODUCE ABOUT 80 GRADUATES WITH MASTER'S DEGREES AND 9 WITH THE DOCTOR'S DEGREE. THIS UPPER TREND IN CIVIL ENGINEERING ENROLLMENTS AT ALL CLASS LEVELS SHOULD PROVIDE INCREASING NUMBERS OF CIVIL ENGINEERING GRADUATES FOR ENTRY INTO HIGHWAY WORK FROM THE 1955-56 SCHOOL YEAR.
