CURRENT LONG-RANGE STUDIES OF HIGHWAY MODERNIZATION PROGRAMS

THE OBJECTIVES AND PROGRESS IN HIGHWAY PLANNING SURVEYS ARE REVIEWED. NINE STATE SURVEYS ARE IN PROGRESS OR COMPLETE. SIX STATES, PLUS THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, HAVE MADE EARLIER EFFORTS. TWELVE STATES PLAN NO ACTION. EIGHT ARE NOW AUTHORIZED BY THEIR LEGISLATURES AND THIRTEEN ARE AUTHORIZED BY ADMINISTRATIVE DIRECTIVE TO CONDUCT SURVEYS. TECHNICAL STANDARDS OF SURVEYS MAY VARY IN THE DIFFERENT STATES, BUT SOME ANSWERS TO PROBLEMS WILL CERTAINLY BE OBTAINED.
