TRENDS AND FORECASTS OF AUTO TRIPS ACROSS THE HUDSON RIVER SCREENLINE IN NEW YORK-NEW JERSEY METROPLITAN AREA

A FORECAST OF TRANS-HUDSON AUTO TRIPS BETWEEN NEW YORK AND THE NEW JERSEY METROPOLITAN AREA IS BEING MADE TO DETERMINE WHEN A NEW INTERSTATE VEHICULAR CROSSING WILL BE NECESSARY. CURRENTLY, TRANS-HUDSON AUTO TRIPS REPRESENT ABOUT 84% OF THE TOTAL VEHICULAR TRAFFIC WITH TRUCK AND BUS TRIPS REPRESENTING THE REST. PAST ANALYSES INDICATED THAT THE TRANS-HUDSON AUTO TRIPS WERE CLOSELY CORRELATED WITH AUTO OWNERSHIP IN THE TRAFFIC SHED OF THE NEW YORK-NEW JERSEY METROPOLITAN AREA WHEN PLOTTED GRAPHICALLY AS A REGRESSION LINE. THEREFORE ANNUAL FORECASTS OF PROBABLE LICENSED DRIVERS BY SEX WERE USED TO DETERMINE THE RELATIONSHIPS OF POPULATION TO HOUSEHOLDS, HOUSEHOLDS TO AUTO REGISTRATION, AND REGISTRATION TO TRANS-HUDSON AUTO TRIPS.
