ECONOMY WITH ACCURACY IN ASSEMBLING TRAFFIC DISPLACEMENT DATA BY AERIAL PHOTOGRAPHY

TO DEVELOP INEXPENSIVE BUT RELIABLE MEANS OF COLLECTING TRAFFIC DISPLACEMENT DATA BY AERIAL PHOTOGRAPHS, THE AUTHORS HAVE DEVELOPED A TECHNIQUE WHICH OBVIATES THE USE OF A STABILIZED CHAMBER. TWO SETS OF COMPUTER PROGRAMS WERE WRITTEN: (A) TO OFFSET THE INCIDENCE OF TILT, AND (B) TO SET UP A VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION FILE. ACCURACY TESTS SHOWED THAT MAXIMUM ERROR FOR DETERMINING VEHICLE CO-ORDINATES BY THIS METHOD IS APPROXIMATELY 1 M PER PHOTOGRAPH MEASURING 400 M SQUARE. /AUTHOR/
