COMBINED RESTITUTION OF AIR AND SATELLITE PHOTOS FOR TOPO MAPS

TOPOGRAPHIC MAPPING ESPECIALLY FOR THE NEEDS OF DEVELOPING COUNTRIES COULD BE RATIONALIZED BY THE INCORPORATION OF SATELLITE PHOTOGRAPHS. THESE CONSIDERATIONS ARE MAINLY CONCERNED WITH MAP SCALES BETWEEN 1:50,000 AND 1:100,000. THE SATELLITE PHOTOGRAPHS ARE USED BOTH FOR BRIDGING AND FOR SUPPLYING THE GEOMETRIC INFORMATION FOR TOPOGRAPHIC MAPPING. FOR TOPOGRAPHIC PHOTOINTERPRETATION AERIAL PHOTOGRAPHS ARE USED AT PICTURE SCALES BETWEEN 1:50,000 AND 1:100,000. FOR THE COMBINED RESTITUTION OF THE TWO KINDS OF PICTURES A NEW PROCEDURE HAS BEEN DEVELOPED. FOR THIS PURPOSE SATELLITE PHOTOGRAPHS AND AERIAL PHOTOGRAPHS ARE COORDINATED IN A RECTIFIER. THEREBY THE PREVIOUSLY RECTIFIED AND GREATLY ENLARGED SATELLITE PHOTOGRAPHS SERVE AS BASE FOR THE FOLLOWING RECTIFICATION OF THE INDIVIDUAL AERIAL PHOTOGRAPHS AND FOR THEIR COMPILATION INTO A MOSAIC. THIS CONTROLLED MOSAIC OF AERIAL PHOTOGRAPHS CAN SERVE AS A BASE FOR FURTHER CARTOGRAPHIC AMENDMENTS OR FOR THE DERIVATION OF A LINE MAP.
