PHOTOGRAMMETRIC METHODS FOR MEASURING WEAR /IN NORWEGIAN/

INVESTIGATIONS SO FAR HAVE MAINLY BEEN CONCERNED WITH THE WEARING RESISTANCE OF DIFFERENT TYPES OF PAVEMENT MIXTURES. IN THIS STUDY, PHOTOGRAMMETRIC METHODS WERE USED, WHICH ENABLE PAVEMENT WEAR TO BE MEASURED, AND PROVIDE A MEANS OF STUDYING THE ACTUAL WEAR MECHANISM. DETAILS ARE GIVEN OF THE METHODS EMPLOYED AND THEIR ACCURACY (IN THE ORDER OF 0.1 MM), DESIGN OF THE PAVEMENTS USED IN THE TEST AND TEST PROCEDURES INVOLVING THE USE OF COMPUTERS FOR EVALUATING THE DATA COLLECTED. THE RESULTS OBTAINED INDICATE THAT THE WEAR OF THE TESTED PAVEMENTS HAS A STEPWISE CHARACTER. THIS CAN BE SEEN IN THE FORMATION OF DEPRESSIONS IN THE PAVEMENT SURFACE ON SUBSEQUENT PICTURES, INDICATING THAT PIECES OF PAVEMENT AGGREGATES HAVE BEEN TORN LOOSE. COMMENT IS MADE ON THE DISTRIBUTION OF WEAR THROUGHOUT THE YEAR AS RELATED TO CLIMATIC CONDITIONS. THE EFFECT OF DEICING CHEMICALS IS BRIEFLY DISCUSSED. /SVV/TRRL/
