COMPETITION BETWEEN SYSTEMS OF PUBLIC AND FREIGHT TRANSPORT

AN OUTLINE IS GIVEN OF RAPID TRANSIT SYSTEMS DEVELOPED DURING THE LAST 20 YEARS, IN MOST OF WHICH THE WHEEL HAS BEEN REPLACED BY ANOTHER MEANS OF SUPPORT, FOR EXAMPLE, VARIOUS TYPES OF AIR CUSHION AND MAGNETIC LEVITATION. REFERENCE IS MADE TO THE USE OF THE LINEAR INDUCTION MOTOR IN THE MAGNETIC LEVITATION VEHICLES. IT IS POINTED OUT THAT THE GREATEST PROBLEM WITH THE MAGNETIC LEVITATION OF VEHICLES IS THE CONSUMPTION OF ELECTRICAL ENERGY, THE ENERGY DISTRIBUTION AND THE WEIGHT OF THE INSTALLATIONS ON THE VEHICLE.
