HOW MANY MORE MILES PER GALLON?

THIS ARTICLE EXAMINES THE MAJOR IMPROVEMENTS THAT COULD BE MADE TO THE CONVENTIONAL AUTOMOBILE IN ORDER TO IMPROVE ITS ECONOMICAL EFFICIENCY. IT IS OBSERVED THAT WELL OVER A 30 PERCENT IMPROVEMENT IN FUEL CONSUMPTION COULD BE HAD IF MANUFACTURERS SIMPLY ADOPTED THE BEST OF CURRENT DESIGNS FOR VALVE GEAR, CARBURATION, TRANSMISSION, AND BODY SHAPE. UPON EXAMINING SEVERAL SO-CALLED "ECONOMY DEVICES" IT WAS FOUND THAT ALL BAR ONE OR TWO HAVE A NEGLIGIBLE EFFECT ON A CAR'S FUEL CONSUMPTION.
