TERMINAL HANDLING ENVIRONMENT FOR NONCONTAINERIZED FREIGHT

THE IMPORTANCE OF NONCONTAINERIZED FREIGHTS TO THE AIR CARGO INDUSTRY IS DELINEATED, AND SPECIALIZED REQUIREMENTS POSED BY THESE SHIPMENTS AT TERMINAL FACILITIES ARE OFFERED AS AN ARGUMENT AGAINST THE IMPOSITION OF STRINGENT UNIFORM OPERATING CONDITIONS AT INDIVIDUAL TERMINAL STATIONS. HANDLING PROCEDURES EMPLOYED FOR SECURITY FREIGHT, LIVE ANIMALS, PERISHABLES, AND SOME TYPES OF NONPERISHABLE (HARD) FREIGHT ILLUSTRATE HOW TERMINALS ARE INDIVIDUALLLY KEYED TO THE NEEDS OF THEIR LOCAL SHIPPERS. THE PRESENTLY AVAILABLE DEGREE OF FLEXIBILITY IS SHOWN TO BE NECESSARY IN RESPONDING TO THE NEEDS OF SPECIAL LOCAL CUSTOMERS. /IAA/
