TRAFFIC CONSIDERATIONS IN PLANNING OF CENTRAL BUSINESS DISTRICTS

THE CONFLICT OF PARKING DEMAND AND TRUCK LOADING AREA NEEDS IS STUDIED. LAND USE CHARACTERISTICS IN RELATION TO TRUCK PICK-UPS AND DELIVERIES ARE PRESENTED IN TABULAR FORM. SOME SOLUTIONS SUGGESTED ARE: FREIGHT TUNNELS, ALLEY AND OFF-STREET LOADING PLANS, TIME SHARING PLANS (AS IN LOUISVILLE), CURB LOADING PLANS, AND TRUCK TERMINALS. RECOMMENDATIONS INCLUDE: IMPROVEMENT OF EXISTING ALLEY SYSTEMS, ENFORCEMENT OF ALLEY RESTRICTIONS, PROPERLY LOCATED CENTRAL BUSINESS DISTRICT BY-PASSES, CONSOLIDATION OF TRUCK TERMINALS AROUND BY-PASS ROUTES.
