OSLO'S GOODS TRANSPORT SURVEY

IN 1960 A GOODS TRANSPORT COMMITTEE WAS SET UP IN OSLO TO MAP THE GOODS TRANSPORT PATTERN TO AND WITHIN THE CITY. THE DATA OBTAINED FROM A SPECIAL STUDY OF GOODS TRANSPORT IS SUMMARIZED AND THE RESULTS OF THE ANALYSIS GIVEN IN THIS REPORT. THREE TECHNIQUES WERE USED: (1) AN ORIGIN-DESTINATION STUDY ON A REPRESENTATIVE SAMPLE OF COMMERCIAL VEHICLES REGISTERED IN OSLO; (2) AN INTERVIEW AND CONTROL COUNT AT A MUNICIPAL BORDER; AND (3) A WEEK LONG SURVEY AT RAILROAD FREIGHT TERMINALS. FORECASTS OF AGGREGATE GOODS MOVEMENT IN OSLO IN 1980 WERE MADE BY THE FRATER METHOD. IT WAS CONCLUDED THAT WAREHOUSES SHOULD BE LOCATED MIDWAY BETWEEN THE DOWNTOWN BUSINESS DISTRICT AND THE OUTSIDE INDUSTRIAL AREA.
