DEVELOPING AND TESTING AN INTRA-REGIONAL MODEL

IN ORDER TO EVALUATE THE ECONOMIC IMPACT OF ALTERNATIVE TRANSPORT SYSTEMS PROPOSED FOR THE NORTHEAST CORRIDOR REGION OF THE UNITED STATES, IT WAS NECESSARY TO DEVELOP A MODEL TO FORECAST THESE IMPACTS. THE MODEL DESCRIBED WAS DEVELOPED BY INTEGRATING PORTIONS OF THE CONCEPTS OF ECONOMIC-BASE, INTERSECTORAL INPUT-OUTPUT, AND SPATIAL ACCESSIBILITY. THE MODEL FORECASTS EMPLOYMENT (TEN SECTORS), POPULATION, PERSONAL INCOME (BY SIX CLASSES), LAND VALUES, AND LAND USE, FOR 131 COUNTY-SIZED AREAS. THE THEORETICAL DEVELOPMENT, PARAMETER ESTIMATION, AND TESTING OF THE MODEL ARE DESCRIBED ALONG WITH SUGGESTIONS FOR FUTURE WORK. /TRRL/
