BENEFIT-COST ANALYSIS IN TRAFFIC ENGINEERING AND URBAN ROAD IMPROVEMENT

BENEFIT-COST CALCULATIONS CAN BE AN APPROPRIATE AID TO ENGINEERS CONCERNED WITH TRAFFIC ENGINEERING AND URBAN ROAD IMPROVEMENT. THE BASIC PRINCIPLES ARE COMMON TO ALL APPLICATIONS. THERE IS SOME SCOPE FOR ADJUSTING THE COMPLEXITY OF THE MATHEMATICAL ANALYSIS TO SUIT THE IMPORTANCE OF THE PROBLEM, JUST AS A DESIGN ENGINEER WOULD USE DIFFERENT LEVELS OF ANALYSIS FOR VARYING PROJECTS. INCREASING APPLICATION BY PRACTICING ENGINEERS WOULD SURELY LEAD TO IMPROVED METHODS, SOUNDER DATA, AND BETTER ENGINEERING DECISIONS.
