LOW SPEED MANOEUVRING CHARACTERISTICS OF LARGE VESSELS IN SHALLOW WATER

A theory is developed leading to a graphical presentation of the ability of a ship to acquire its mooring. These charts would be suitable for issue to the port authorities as part of routine standard orders. An experimental procedure to determine the data necessary to construct the graphs from tank tests and later verify individual vessel characteristics by a simple series of observable manoeuvres is identified.
