THE USE OF WEATHER CHART RECORDERS IN MERCHANT SHIPS

The article discusses the advantages of receiving up to date broadcast weather charts prepared by a shipboard printing unit. Facsimile transmissions currently available are then reviewed, and it is pointed out that the system can be of great use on ships with only one radio officer. Possible savings due to weather routeing, safety aspects, and navigational warnings and urgent chart corrections by facsimile broadcasting are dealt with. Order from NSFI as No. 17501.
