PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS TO A HOT MIX RECYCLING PLANT

The paper reports on a study to determine and evaluate the economics and the technical feasibility of recycling asphaltic concrete through a conventional asphalt batch plant. Two evaluations were made. The first considered the process in which the recycle mix is introduced into the cold feed and proceeds through the dryer, hot elevator, etc. It included modifications of the plant to reduce the adverse effect of the dryer flame being in direct contact with the crushed hot mix and the resultant stack emissions. The second considered the process whereby the recycle mix is introduced into the hot bins, which is often called the Minnesota method.
