All in One
In the past, many cities had union stations that linked long-distance, regional and local transit services. After falling out of favor for many years, intermodal passenger facilities are staging a comeback. Part of this renaissance can be attributed to the federal government’s commitment to expanding high speed rail in the U.S. This article describes the planning and development of some of these transit centers, which planners hope will encourage new passengers and revitalize the areas around the centers. The intermodal centers in Fort Worth, Texas; Durham, North Carolina; and Milwaukee, Wisconsin are highlighted.
