During 1975 the National Aeronautics and Space Administration worked closely with the major air-frame and engine manufacturers, the airlines, and other government agencies to identify those technology advancements with the greatest potential for saving fuel in future air transportation. The result of that planning activity was the formulation of a 10-year, multiphased plan for the development of technology related to more energy-efficient transport aircraft. This paper reviews the technologies selected for emphasis in the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Aircraft Energy Efficiency Program, describes some recent accomplishments, and summarizes the activities planned for 1978 and later. /Author/
