The control facilities of the Heathrow and Gatwick airports in London, England, are described. Problems associated with handling the ever-growing traffic volume are discussed, along with solutions to improve traffic control. The electric distribution system, multiplexing equipment, ground lighting and the British Airport Rapid Control and Indication System (BARCIS) are dealt with.
