A SPACE TRUSS WITH YIELDING TENSILE CHORDS

Tests on two nominally identical model space trusses are described. The trusses are so designed that failure is caused by yielding of the tensile chords. Comparison is made with a simple theoretical analysis. Comments are made on the desirability of using tensile chords, but the precautions needed are noted. A design method is proposed. /Author/TRRL/
