DISTRIBUTION OF URBAN SPACE FOR JOURNEYS. SAFETY AND PLANNING

REPARTITION DE L'ESPACE URBAIN POUR LES DEPLACEMENTS. SECURITE ET PLANIFICATION

Safety problems in built-up areas frequently result from a badly adapted urban land use. For this reason numerous towns are beginning to develop safety studies, not only at isolated locations, but at traffic planning stage. This article attempts summaries of essential planning principles, orientated towards safety, as these problems would appear from experience obtained in new and old towns. Two case studies appear particularly worthy of studying: those of town centres and those of residential zones. /TRRL/
