ADAPTATION OF THE WHEEL TRACKING MACHINE TO THE TESTING OF BITUMINOUS MIXES FOR RESISTANCE TO PLASTIC STRAIN

ADECUACION DEL ENSAYO EN PISTA DE LABORATORIO PARA LA CARACTERIZACION DE RESISTENCIA A LAS DEFORMACIONES PLASTICAS DE LAS MEXCLAS BITUMINOSAS

The wheel tracking machine is designed to achieve a closer correspondence between laboratory conditions and those to which the mix is actually subjected in service. The object of this article is to publish some of the results so far obtained for the performance of the wheel tracking machine with different types of mix and under different test conditions. After giving a brief description of the test and the specifications prescribed by the transport and Road Research Laboratory for carrying it out, it analyses the need for the conditions under which the samples are manufactured and tested to be adapted to the particular type of mix involved, and to external factors of climate, terrain and legal provisions. It then sets out the conclusions it has been possible to reach. /TRRL/
