INVESTIGATION AND REVIEW OF PERIODICAL FLUCTUATIONS IN PORT TURNOVERS

One may notice in the operation of a port that the number of ships arriving at a port per unit of time is fluctuating very significantly around an average size, the so-called arrival-rate (number of ships) supposed to be a Poisson random variable. Obviously, in this case, the daily quantity of goods to be handled in port is a random variable too. The paper presents several possibilities of investigating the periodic fluctions of port operations with a view to ensure a scientific control and to take decisions concerning the possible extension of port capacity.
