ENGINES AND CYCLES AIM FOR EFFICIENCY

An overview is presented of R&D work on the development of several engines for vehicles and aircraft that are designed for improved cycle efficiency. Highlighted among these are: a Stirling reciprocating engine, a regenerative gas turbine for automotive uses that transfers exhaust heat to compressor discharge air to improve efficiency, advanced aircraft gas turbines, Otto cycle engine designs using stratified flow combustion, a Diesel-Rankine cycle engine, and a hybrid engine with batteries and its own generator sets.
