A method of calculating work content and productivity is presented which can be used in a variety of circumstances and which will produce quick estimates of the values required. The method is based on a simple statistical analysis of the times spent on various types of joint (fillet and butt welds in this case), and on the combination of data from each type of joint to produce a net time or cost for a structure made with the various joints of given lengths. Simple regression analysis is demonstrated, and an example is given to illustrate the application of the method. It is particularly suitable for shipbuilding where designs and combinations of joint types vary considerably. Order from BSRA as No. 51,014.
