RENEGOTIATION OF THE JAPANESE-AMERICAN BILATERAL AGREEMENT

The background for the present negotiations is presented. Based on the success of the British to negotiate a new bilateral agreement with the United States and changing economic conditions, the Japanese have asked to renegotiate their bilateral agreement. The terms of each side are discussed--what the Japanese want, what the United States wants, and what each is willing to give. The possible effects of the Bermuda 1 agreement, and finally, the probable results of the negotiations are examined. /Author/
