Overseas developments in low temperature asphalt

This study details some of the more recent developments and successes in reducing mixing and application temperatures of asphalt products. the knowledge exchange and best practice transfer associated with this technology has meant that many countries are now interested in ways to reduce application temperatures. This study concentrates on the development of the S Class range of binders by shell Bitumen and describes the benefits they offer and how they have been used. It is clear that reducing temperature is a solution that offers a wide variety of stakeholder benefits for producer, contractor, road user and the general public such as improving workability, extending the laying window, improvements in logistics, savings in energy costs and reducing emissions. Examples of the successful implementation of low temperature technology are described. For the covering abstract see ITRD E145817
