Basic data are outlined of an experiemntal passenger battery-powered car. The main efforts are directd toward an improvement of the batteries in the number of charge/discharge cycles before replacement. The present battery provides about 400 such cycles, with 800 expected from the improved battery. ALthough there have been over 25 different types of electric vehicle batteries proposed, only four appear to be strong practical contenders. These are the industry staple, lead-acid; the touted nickel-zinc; the strongly contended, zinc-chloride; and the ultimate hope, sodium-sulfur.
