Air Conditioning Modifications Meet Changing Transportation Needs

This article describes new systems, trends, and factors in air conditioning systems for transit vehicles. Manufacturers report increasing importance placed on the horsepower draw of the A/C compressor. Less horsepower draw means greater fuel efficiency and more power to drive the bus. New trends include roof mount A/C systems, which are becoming increasingly popular for small and heavy-duty bus and rail applications for passenger accessibility reasons and to protect the condenser from salted roads and stones. New technologies are allowing better and cleaner refrigerants to be used. Finally, the author describes new systems for A/C maintenance and support.
