The Economic Impacts of Traffic Signals

Recently, in the United Kingdom, campaigns have sprung up to have traffic signals switched off and/or removed. However, there has been little overall attention paid to the economic ramifications of traffic signal installation or removal. In order to consider this topic, the benefits or disbenefits of removing traffic signals must be quantified in order for highway authorities to determine the related implications of such actions. This article undertakes research into the subject of the economic benefits of traffic signals and provides an overview of the author's findings.
