TOTAL SYSTEMS APPROACH TO MACHINERY CONTROL AND SURVEILLANCE

This paper has very briefly described a completely new approach to high integrity control and surveillance equipment suitable for marine applications. In designing the new system to utilize the benefits of the latest technology the opportunity has been taken to reduce the risk to both the manufacturer and the customer. Technically the system offers a degree of flexibility and freedom of systems design impossible only a decade ago. Vosper Thornycroft (Products Division) are currently developing the microprocessor-based D77 Control System which consists of a range of standard equipment and relevant software, suitable for use on ships' machinery control and surveillance systems. Envisaged are conventional diesels, combined gas-turbine and diesel installations, as well as gas turbo-electric machinery fits, for a wide range of ship types.
