Stewart airport which has 23,000 square feet of indoor storage, more than a million dollars worth of ground handling equipment, and a 6000 foot runway to complement a new 12,000-foot strip, also has the only currently operating foreign-trade zone in the U.S. Economic, geographic and climatic advantages offered by the airport are noted. The environmental aspects of the airport development are also discussed. Cargo handling facilities at Stewart offer better service to shippers. Unlike at JFK airport, at Stewart freight can be trucked almost directly to the waiting aircraft. Livestock shippers and small package operations have opted for the facilities offered by Stewart.
