The Broader Basis for Investing in Munitions Assessment and Removal

The author argues that in addition to evaluating potential threats posed by underwater munitions, such as unexploded ordnance and discarded military munitions, and determining how to best protect people and resources from those risks, threats must be addressed as ways to work through larger problems. Some relevant problems include sustaining oceans, coastal communities, and vibrant maritime economies, as well as understanding how a population may be affected by the changing world (e.g. ocean acidification) as it addresses these threats. An important part of addressing the larger problems can be professionals in the field, who can be held to a higher standard.
