Bridge design for ease of maintenance

It is interesting to understand the proposed life of a structure when considering maintenance. Most codes state a design life of say 100 – 150 years while some recent public private projects (PPP’s) specify 300 years life. Clearly, usage will change during the design life, and as the changes in road transport over the last 100 years could not have been predicted, are we likely to better predict changes over the next 100 years?
