MANUAL OF GEOMETRIC DESIGN STANDARDS FOR CANADIAN ROADS AND STREETS

THIS IS A LOOSE-LEAF MANUAL FOR WHICH FREE REVISIONS ARE PROVIDED AS REQUIRED OVER A PERIOD OF AT LEAST FIVE YEARS FROM TIME OF PUBLICATION. THE MANUAL WAS PREPARED TO SUPPLEMENT RATHER THAN REPLACE THE TWO AASHO POLICIES ON GEOMETRIC DESIGN. THE STANDARDS IN THIS MANUAL ARE RELATED TO ROAD CLASSIFICATION TO OVERCOME THE NEED FOR GENERALIZATIONS. THE THIRTY-FOUR ROAD CLASSES DEFINED IN CHAPTER ONE ARE BASED UPON RURAL OR URBAN LOCATION, FREEWAY, ARTERIAL, COLLECTOR OR LOCAL SERVICE, DIVIDED OR UNDIVIDED LANES AND DESIGN SPEED. A TYPICAL ROAD DESIGN CLASSIFICATION WOULD BE DESIGNATED AS RAU 70 TO INDICATE A RURAL ARTERIAL UNDIVIDED ROAD WITH 70 MPH DESIGN SPEED. FOR EACH ROAD CLASS STANDARDS ARE GIVEN IN SEPARATE CHAPTERS FOR ALIGNMENT ELEMENTS, CROSS -SECTION ELEMENTS, INTERSECTIONS, GRADE SEPARATIONS AND INTERCHANGES AND ILLUMINATION. A GLOSSARY AND INDEX ARE ALSO PROVIDED. /CGRA/
