Signal Analysis and Processing for Detecting Void Phenomenon Under Concrete Pavement by Using Ground Penetrating Radar

Based on detection principle of ground penetrating radar (GPR) for cement concrete pavement, the time difference formula of the reflection wave change when the voids occurred under pavement is derived. The echo signals of pavement GPR detection are analyzed. For a variety of clutter signals ariving from noises, filtering approach is proposed to retain useful echo signals. By using wavelet analysis method, the field detected signals from the test section of Yantai-Weihai Expressway in Shandong Province with GPR were analyzed, and all types of error were eliminated to accurately measure the thickness of voids. The results show that the detecting method using GPR is rapid, non-destructive, and precise.
