ANALYTICAL RECTIFICATION IN HIGHWAY ENGINEERING

A FASTER, MORE ECONOMICAL APPROACH WAS NEEDED FOR THE PRODUCTION OF RECTIFIED AERIAL PHOTOGRAPHS IN THE PHOTOGRAMMETRY DIVISION, DEPARTMENT OF HIGHWAYS, ONTARIO. THE RESEARCH CONSISTS OF A THEORETICAL STUDY OF THE GEOMETRY OF RECTIFICATION AND ITS APPLICATION TO THE WILD E4 RECTIFIER. THE ELEMENTS OF RECTIFICATION ARE EXPRESSED IN ANALYTICAL FORM AS FUNCTIONS OF PHOTO AND MAP COORDINATES OF CORRESPONDING POINTS. ANALYTICAL TRIANGULATION AND STRIP ADJUSTMENT ARE PRE-REQUISITES TO THE ANALYTICAL METHOD OF RECTIFICATION. THEREFORE, THESE PHASES WERE ALSO STUDIED, & APPROPRIATE AVAILABLE COMPUTER PROGRAMMES WERE MODIFIED FOR PURPOSES OF THE PHOTOGRAMMETRY DIVISION. THE RECTIFICATION THEORY WAS INCORPORATED INTO A VERSATILE COMPUTER PROGRAM WHICH RENDERS THE FIVE ELEMENTS OF RECTIFICATION. FINALLY, A PRACTICAL TEST WAS UNDERTAKEN FROM WHICH AN ASSESSMENT OF THE ANALYTICAL METHOD OF RECTIFICATION WAS MADE. /AUTHOR/
