SPECIFICATIONS FOR AERIAL SURVEYS AND MAPPING BY PHOTOGRAMMETRIC METHODS FOR HIGHWAYS-REFERENCE GUIDE OUTLINE

THE REFERENCE GUIDE OUTLINE IS PRESENTED TO ENABLE THE PURCHASER AND THE PRODUCER OF AERIAL PHOTOGRAPHY, MAPS, AND OTHER SURVEY DATA REQUIRED FOR ACCOMPLISHING HIGHWAY ENGINEERING TO KNOW WHAT IS NEEDED AND WHAT CAN BE FURNISHED TO EFFECTIVELY AND ECONOMICALLY OBTAIN ALL ESSENTIAL DATA. SUCCESSIVE HIGHWAY ENGINEERING STAGES BEGIN WITH PLANNING AND PROCEED THROUGH RECONNAISSANCE OF AREA TO DETERMINE THE FEASIBLE ROUTE ALTERNATIVES, SELECTION OF BEST ROUTE, PRELIMINARY SURVEY OF THE SELECTED ROUTE FOR DESIGN, PREPARATION OF DETAILED CONSTRUCTION PLANS AND COST ESTIMATES. LOCATION SURVEYS, CONSTRUCTION AND PROGRESS- ESTIMATES SURVEYS, CONDITION AND INVENTORY SURVEYS OF EXISTING HIGHWAYS, AND SURVEYS FOR NEEDED IMPROVEMENTS IN HIGHWAYS. THE STAGES IN WHICH HIGHWAY LOCATION AND DESIGN ARE ACCOMPLISHED ARE VITAL IN PROVIDING ADEQUATE SERVICES TO PEOPLE USING THE HIGHWAYS. ESSENTIAL INFORMATION AND DATA IN SUFFICENT DETAIL AND SCOPE FOR SUCH WORK CAN BE OBTAINED THROUGH THE PLANNED USE OF AERIAL SURVEYS. DEFECTION ON SPECIFICATION DETAILS CONTAINS THE TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS IN 21 SECTIONS. IT IS EMPHASIZED THAT PHOTOGRAPHY SCALE DEPENDS UPON THE PHOTOGRAMMETRIC INSTRUMENTS TO BE USED, THE MEASUREMENT AND MAP SCALE, AND THE ACCURACY REQUIREMENTS OF ALL MEASUREMENTS AND MAPS FOR THE PROJECT. REPRESENTATIVE AGREEMENT ITEMS ARE PRESENTED FOR SOME ENGINEERING STAGES. MULTIPLE REPRODUCTION OF PHOTOGRAPHIC DETAILS ARE DISCUSSED.
