URBAN TRANSPORTATION AND THE LOCATION OF INDUSTRY IN METROPOLITAN LOS ANGELES

THE ARTICLE INVESTIGATES THE QUESTION OF WHETHER TRANSPOR- TATION HAS DECISIVELY CONDITIONED THE STRUCTURE OF THE AREA (LOS ANGELES) OR WHETHER THE STRUCTURE OF THE AREA REDUCED THE RESPONSE IN TRANSPORTATION. GENERAL CONCLUSIONS ABOUT THE CITY'S STRUCTURE ARE DERIVED FROM 23 MAPS, WHICH DISTINGUISH MANUFACTURING AND SERVICE INDUSTRY SITES THROUGHOUT THE CITY WITH RESPECT TO SIZE AND LOCATION ON A RAIL OR MOTOR TRANSPORT ROUTE.
