A STUDY OF THE UTILIZATION OF TRUCKS FOR TRANSPORT IN URBAN AREAS

THE INCREASINGLY IMPORTANT ROLE OF TRUCKS IN THE COMMODITY MOVEMENT SYSTEM IS CONSIDERED IN THIS STUDY. THE ROLE OF TRUCKS IN THE TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM AND THEIR POSITION IN SEVERAL PAST STUDIES IS REVIEWED. TRUCK INVENTORY AND CLASSIFICATION METHODS AND THE APPROACHES TO TRUCK TRIP GENERATION ESTIMATION USED IN SEVERAL MAJOR STUDIES ARE CONSIDERED. REPORT ALSO INCLUDES RESULTS OF 0-D SURVEY OF TRUCK TRAVEL IN LOS ANGELES AREA, COMPARISON OF TRAVEL CHARACTERISTICS OF FOR HIRE AND COMMERCIAL TRUCKS, ANALYSIS OF RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN TRUCK DESTINATIONS AND COMMODITY DELIVERIES, AND CONSIDERS A TRUCK TRIP DISTRIBUTION MODEL.
