No Laying Off

Both bonded and unbonded concrete pavement overlays can be used for composite, concrete, or asphalt pavements. Use of overlays is increasing across the United States, as overlays become a mainstay of pavement preservation and rehabilitation. The authors discuss various considerations in the use of overlays, including preparation, curing, joint design, and joint layout. Three overlay projects of note are discussed that took place Yadkin County, North Carolina; Sequoyah County, Oklahoma; and Grand Rapids to Cedar Springs, Michigan. "Guide to Concrete Overlays" by Dale Harrington et al. forms the basis of portions of this article. Print copies of the guide are available for a fee from the American Concrete Pavement Association.
