Review of FAA's Progress in Enhancing Air Traffic Control Systems Security

This report presents the results of our review of Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAAs) renewed initiatives in addressing air traffic control (ATC) systems security weaknesses discussed in our FY 2007 audit report of the Departments information security program. In that report, (1) the authors identified the need to implement an operational business continuity plan (BCP) to ensure continued en route services; (2) in the event of a long-term disaster. We also identified the need to enhance the system security certification and accreditation process across all air traffic control systems, not just the ones used to support en route operations.
