Preliminaries to a Feasibility Analysis of the Maglev Proposal of The Southern California Association of Governments for the Region

This seed grant study performs a preliminary investigation of the system components and generalized costs for three types of transit technolgies: 1) magnetic levitation such as that proposed for the Southern California Region; 2) TGV‐based high speed rail as used in France; and, 3) urban rapid transit with special focus on bus rapid transit (BRT). This technology overview summarizes the key aspects of these transit technologies and provides comparative cost information to feed a more comprehensive feasibility analysis.
